Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter. The greatest concentrations of hipsters can be found living in the City. Although "hipsterism" is really a state of mind,it is also often intertwined with distinct fashion sensibilities. Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often be seen wearing vintage and inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses. Both hipster men and women sport similar androgynous hair styles that include combinations of messy shag cuts and asymmetric side-swept bangs. Such styles are often associated with the work of creative stylists at urban salons, and are usually too "edgy" for the culturally-sheltered mainstream consumer. The "effortless cool" urban bohemian look of a hipster is exemplified in Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads which cater towards the hipster demographic.

I went around to all my fashionable friends that are really big on fashion and asked them what things are 'hipstermatic' and a range of things they said were Cats, Triangles, Bicycles, wool jumpres, rimless glasses, tie dye and a few other things that I cant remember. Chk Chk Chk, are very hipstermatic and the sort of young people who watch them are very much in the scheme of this style. So these stickers that I am making will need to be related to this audience.

I got this font from dafont.com, it was one that we both decided to use as some of our design as it is creative and suits are audience.

Where the Music Industry Went Wrong: Why Indie Musicians Are Struggling to Sell Their Music

There are three reasons why local, indie musicians are not achieving the levels of success they desire in the music industry. If you are an indie artist and you are struggling to sell your music, if you are struggling to get promotion and publicity, then it is probably because of at least one of these three reasons.

Reason 1. Indie musicians have forgotten or are not aware of, the true value and power of music.
Reason 2. Indie musicians do not communicate the value of their music or they do so poorly. This reason aims at how musicians market and promote their music. This reason also explains why most musicians are not able to network effectively at industry events and get the attention of music executives and the press. I will discuss this reason in a later article in this series.
Reason 3. Indie Musicians do not deliver the value of their music to their fans. This is all about distribution, how your music is delivered, received, and experienced by your fans. This is about how your fans experience your brand. I’ll discuss this reason later in another article.
We are going to produce tshitrs at the event and here are the existing tshirts for Grizzly Bear.

Me and Amy made a desision today to change the bigger artist, instead of Apex Twin we will now have Grizzly Bear playing with Chk Chk Chk because they are much more similar and in fair it was very close in our survey between the 2 artists being liked the most.
Here is a flyer for Apex Twin, very eyecatching and I cant look away from it.

After doing some more reaserch to my amazement I discovered that there isnt just 1 album but 11. However, the majority are just EP's which only have maybe 4 track on. So now me and my partner Amy have more work to do to figure out which album to brand.

Their target audience for Chk Chk Chk is young people, 16- 30, people who like music alot and go to gigs and stuff. I would say they are Alternative but on wikipedia it says they are a dance- punk band.
The band them selves there are 7 men all similar age, mid 30s. They have only 1 album which came out in 2001 but they have been together for like 10 years.

This is Becks' do it yourself album cover which insists on a squared piece of paper with the 'Beck" brand name on and in the packageing it is full of stickers so its interactive and fun and most importantly its different. This is the direction we would like to go in when designing 'Chk Chk Chk's' identity.

New brief

Me and Amy have decided on the band !!!, also known as Chk Chk Chk, or Chik Chik Chik, or Chick Chik Chk. They are not very well know and so we thought this can be an advantage to us rather then doing a band that is very popular and people are familiar with their sound and artwork.

We want to generate Artwork including Video, new logo keeping the same 3 exclamation marks, packaging. They only have 1 album so we want to make a really cool, hip new packaging to match the bands weird creativness and also promotional stuff like posters and flyers and we had a cool idea of spray painting little identity things across the city.

They hail from New York and, to make a point, they called themselves !!! (or chik chik chik, or chk chk chk - gaah!!!). The American clubby-electro-rock outfit used to cause considerable arguments at our Virgin Megastore as to where to file their CDs on the racks instore - in the end, we stuck them in 'Rock Pop' prior to the letter A.

Nowadays, there aren't so many record and CD shops about and Chk Chk Chk have sold enough albums to warrant continued adulation from loyal fans, not least the 2004 collection "Louden Up Now", released on Warp. The band are still on the Sheffield-imprint and are set to release their fourth studio album in the form of "Strange Weather, Isn't It?"on 24th August, their first for three years. Just prior to this, a 12" clear vinyl of "AM/FM" and "The Hammer" hits the shops and if you fancy a listen, check out the player to the right / above / below* for a snippet of "The Hammer" which, to these ears, takes over from where LCD Soundsystem have left off.
