NEW IDEA
I have a cool new idea... Instead of making 5 contact lenses of each colour I will make just 1, but, as kind of like a mood ring so that it changes colour with the temperature. I like this idea because its not been done before. However of course I wont make the contact lense I will just design it and if I was a professional I would give my idea to a specialist in making contact lenses. I will still keep the idea of realistic colours so the Green, Blue, Hazel and grey and brown eye colours.

MOOD RINGS

Mood rings were invented by Joshua Reynolds in 1970 and are still around today. The stone of the ring changes colour, supposedly according to the mood or emotional state of the person wearing it but everyone knows its to do with temperature of surrounding air. The stone of a mood ring is made from hollow glass containing thermotropic liquid crystals. Modern mood jewelry is usually made from a flat strip of liquid crystals with a protective coating. The crystals respond to changes in temperature by twisting. The twisting changes their molecular structure, which alters the wavelengths of light that are absorbed or reflected. Wavelengths of light is another way of saying colour, so when the temperature of the liquid crystals changes, so does their colour.

Mood rings can't tell your emotional state with any degree of accuracy, but the crystals were calibrated with have a pleasing blue or green colour at the average person's normal resting peripheral temperature of 82°F (28°C). As peripheral body temperature increases, which it does in response to passion and happiness, the crystals twist to reflect blue. When you are excited or stressed, blood flow is directed away from the skin and more toward the internal organs, cooling the fingers, causing the crystals to twist the other direction, to reflect more yellow. In cold weather, or if the ring was damaged, the stone would be dark gray or black and unresponsive.

The top of the list is the warmest temperature, at violet, moving to the coolest temperature, at black.

violet blue - happy, romantic

blue - calm, relaxed

green - average, not much going on with you

yellow/amber - tense, excited

brown/gray - nervous, anxious

black - cold temperature or damaged ring

Coloured Contact Lenses
There are so many different variety of lenses you can buy from £10 to £30, ones that look natural, ones that make you look like an animal, glow in the dark contacts, lenses with flag patterns, stars, circles. Too many to choose from but to me they all look really false. They say the colour of your eyes tells you what kind of person you are and people try to change who they are all the time which is why I need to come up with a lense that looks so real but makes you look so diferent.
HAZEL EYES

Hazel eyes are due to a moderate amount of melanin in the iris's anterior border layer. Hazel eyes often appear to shift in color from a light brown to a golden-green. Hazel mostly consists of brown and green. The dominant colour in the eye can either be green or light brown/gold. This is how many people mistake hazel eyes to be amber. This can sometimes produce a multicolored iris.

GREEN EYES
Green eyes are the product of low to moderate amounts of melanin they are are most common in Northern and Central Europe. 89% of women and 87% of men have either blue or green eye colours. A study of Icelandic and Dutch adults found green eyes to be much more prevalent in women than in men.
GREY EYES
Gray eyes are most common in Northern and Eastern Europe. They can also be found rarely, in parts of Norway. Under magnification, gray eyes exhibit small amounts of yellow and brown color in the iris.

BROWN EYES
Brown eyes are dominant in humans and in many parts of the world, it is nearly the only iris color present. Light or medium-pigmented brown eyes are common in Europe, India, Iran, Armenia, Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as and some parts of the Middle East. Light-pigmented brown eyes are sometimes referred to as "honey eyes". Brown eyes are the most common eye color, with over half of the world's population having them.

BLUE EYES
Blue eyes contain low amounts of melain in the iris which makes them blue. They are most common in Europe, Spain and Portugal. 1-49% of the people have blue eyes. However, blue eyes have become more rare in American children with only 1 in 6, which is 49.8 million out of 300 million of the US population having blue eyes.

Based on all of my research and concept development I will promote and package eye colour in contact lenses. It will be an international distribution so therefore there will be a lot printed, too many for me to print so it will have to be a Lithography print based on glossy card to demonstrate the glossyness of eyes.

The considerations I need to think about are... I am trying to promote an existing product which is contact lenses to and audience of anyone over the age of 16. I will achieve this by promoting my package on billboards and posters. I would also like to do some gurrilla advertising to sell my product. I will be useing Lithography and and also embossing on the package. I must also think about the finish folding and creasing as it will be a package that people will open. I have looked at existing packages of this already however it is important that my design is not the same and I will modify and adapt to make my package fit to the correct considerations. The relationship between my audience will deliver passion and authority.

As this is a very small and delicate product I will need to ensure my package will protect the content.

..................................
GOOD IS....eye colour

Because...
- every bodys eyes are different
- Change eye colour/ change personality
- So detailed close up
- One small defect can have a majour effect
- It is possible to change your eyecolour.

I intend to
PROMOTE to an audience of 16+ so very wide veriety.

I want to produce a package to sell contact lenses.

The print prosseses I intend to use will be Lithography o=as its paper based and It will be sold internationally. They will be nets so I will need to think about the folding and creasing technique.

-A coloured contact lense is designed to change the appearance of the eye. Some also correct the vision but mainly the coloured lenses result in blurry or obstruction of the vision.

-As with any contact lens, cosmetic lenses carry risks of mild and serious complications, including ocular redness, irritation, and infection.

-They are used as a type of cosmetic that are used in the entertainment industry to makr the eye appear confusing. However most often they are used at Halloween or in zombie films to make the eyes look scary.

-Scleral lenses cover the white part of the eye (sclera) You can get them in loads of different colours but they are very difficult to insertbecause they are much bigger. Also they cannot be worn for more then 3 hrs as they become painful and cause temporary vision diturbance.

-However, the lenses I will be looking at will be realistic looking ones where people use them as an accessory to fit there mood.

I have decided that swaping eyes is too dificult to achieve after hours of choosing a box to fit an eye in. So now I have decided to keep the same idea but package contact lenses instead. This will be much more of a realistic product and I wont have to modify the boxes as much as I have been doing.

Eye Colour

The genetic switch is located in the gene adjacent to OCA2 and rather than completely turning off the gene, the switch limits its action, which reduces the production of melanin in the iris. In effect, the turned-down switch diluted brown eyes to blue. If the OCA2 gene had been completely shut down, our hair, eyes and skin would be melanin-less, a condition known as albinism.

The colour of the iris is determined by the amount of pigment in the iris structure. No pigments at all will result in a pink iris, in the case of an albino. Some pigments cause the iris to appear blue Whereas increasing the amount of iris pigments produce green, hazel, and brown irises.
Rarely, one iris can be a different color than the other iris. This is known as “heterochromia irides” and is determined genetically. Also, a section of one iris may be a different color from the rest of that iris; this is known as “heterochromia iridum” or “sectoral heterochromia iridis.” Usually, if on e of these conditions is present, it is noticeable at birth.

Unlike what commonly is believed, the iris does not change colors in an adult . Iris color may appear to change, depending upon the color of clothing a person is wearing on a particular day. However, this color change does not actually take place; it is a misperception by the observer, often due to variations in lighting.

The Iris

The iris is visible through the clear cornea as the colored disc inside of the eye, is a thin diaphragm composed mostly of connective tissue and smooth muscle fibers. It is situated between the cornea and the crystalline lens. The color, texture, and patterns of each person’s iris are as unique as a fingerprint.

The iris is composed of 3 layers, from the front to the back:

  1. endothelium,
  2. stroma,
  3. epithlium

People with Blue eyes have a single, common ancesster. A genetic mutation which took place 6-10 000 yrs ago, and it is the cause of the eye colour of all blue eyed humans alive today.“Originally, we all had brown eyes.”

I read alot more into this but it was way too scientific for my understanding basically the colour of your eyes is determined
by the amount of melanin in the iris,
Trichromacy
Anomalous trichromacy is a common type of inherited color vision deficiency, occurring when one of the three cone pigments is altered in its spectral sensitivity. This results in an impairment, rather than loss, of trichromacy (normal three-dimensional color vision) Dichromacy
Dichromacy is a moderately severe color vision defect in which one of the three basic color mechanisms is absent or not functioning. It is hereditary and sex-linked, affecting predominantly males. Dichromacy occurs when one of the cone pigments is missing and color is reduced to two dimensions.

Monochromacy
,
Monochromacy, also known as "total color blindness", is the lack of ability to distinguish colors; caused by cone defect or absence. Monochromacy occurs when two or all three of the cone pigments are missing and color and lightness vision is reduced to one dimension.
